Update on Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI-DSS)

June 24, 2010—As you may be aware, the five major credit card networks established the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI-DSS) as a set of requirements for merchants to follow when configuring their IT and payment–processing environments. If your company stores, processes, or transmits card holder data, you are subject to these requirements.

In addition, if your company stores, processes or transmits cardholder data via a software product, you must also ensure that the product you are using is compliant with the Payment Application Data Security Standards (PA–DSS) by the Visa–imposed deadline of July 1, 2010, or you may risk losing the ability to process Visa transactions and potentially all credit card transactions with your credit card processor.

You may have received communication from your bank or processor about why compliance is important, but you may not think that the PCI standards apply to you because of how you process payments or because of the size of your business. Sage encourages all customers to educate themselves on PCI–DSS, PA–DSS, and the steps required to ensure that your business is protected.

If you choose to use a PA-DSS compliant software product, we want you to know that both Sage ERP v5.3.x and v6.1.x are integrated with a PA–DSS certified application and as such meet the criteria for your need to use a PA–DSS compliant payment application as a merchant.

If you are utilizing additional third–party software payment applications that cannot provide proof of PA–DSS certification, or if you are not running a PA–DSS compliant version/solution of Sage ERP X3 (i.e., integrated with Sage Exchange), please contact your Sage business partner or Sage customer account manager.

While using Sage ERP X3 versions 5.3 and 6.1 satisfy the PA–DSS compliance requirement, we also encourage you to take action to obtain PCI–DSS certification for your business. We have arranged for preferred pricing with our partner, Trustwave, for PCI–DSS certification services.

Simply visit https://pci.trustwave.com/sageerpx3 to get started. You will also find opportunities for online education and FAQs regarding PCI–DSS compliance on this site.

You can find more information on PCI–DSS and PA–DSS compliance on the official PCI Security Standard website at: http://pcisecuritystandards.org.

Be sure to protect your business and your customers. We recommend that you start the compliance process today. For additional information please contact your Sage Product Manager or Sales representative.
